Sweet Paprika

Grown in the nutrient-rich, alluvial soil by the river Danube with just the right amount of sunshine and ripened after harvest with centuries-old traditional methods, this world famous sweet paprika will enrich your dishes in a way few spices can.
Hot Paprika
Hot or extra hot? Pick your favorite and turn up the heat. A century ago all paprika in Hungary was hot. The sweet variety took time to breed. Now you can experience the vibrant, spicy flavor of Hungary’s oldest paprika varieties - grown from seeds that you can never buy in a store: in Kalocsa, the best seeds are like sacred treasure passing down from generation to generation in small family farms.
Smoked Paprika
Smoked the old-fashioned way with a special selection of woods. Ideal not just for Hungarian dishes but paellas, sauces, stews, dips, roasted vegetables or dry rubs for any meat as well. The smokiness is not as overwhelming as in a Spanish style paprika and this is intentional. It is just the right balance of flavor and smoke. Our paprika spends 2 days in a traditional smoker where a secret selection of wood is used to achieve the characteristic flavor and aroma of Hencher smoked paprika.

Hencher partners with small producers and family farms in the Kalocsa region that share our passion for tradition. We toured the farms ourselves and discovered paprika varieties that have been perfected over a century. It’s clear – you can taste the difference!
